The Journal of Sandplay Therapy

The Journal of Sandplay Therapy is a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal for clinicians interested in the use of sandplay therapy with children and adults.  Sandplay is a nonverbal therapy enabling patients to express conscious and unconscious material in visual form by means of figures placed in a sandtray. The Journal of Sandplay Therapy is of interest to both beginning and experienced sandplay therapists, and features clinically focused articles accompanied by photographs of patients’ sandplay scenes. In addition, the Journal presents theoretical articles, research articles, and book reviews.  Sandplay therapy was founded by Dora Kalff and is grounded in Jungian theory. The Journal also includes analytic, psychoanalytic, and other perspectives in the field of clinical psychology.

Please join us in these 3 unit courses.

Learning Objectives

In each 3 unit course clinicians will be exposed to :

  1. The role of a symbolic expression of the Self in a sandplay and play therapy process.
  2. How understanding symbolism and process aids the clinician in formulating a treatment plan and prognosis.
  3. Current research in sandplay and play therapy, showing that the client’s symbolic process and expression of unconscious contents play a vital function in healing.
  4. The relative importance of conscious and unconscious processes in sandplay and play therapy.
  5. How sandplay therapy promotes healing by creating an environment in which necessary developmental conditions of early childhood are experienced by the patient.

This course consists of a post-test based upon reading the Journal. The online portions include a Forum for discussion and the post-test. There is no online material to read. After you pass the post-test, you may print out your own certificate.
