Clinical Psychopharmacology can be confusing and overwhelming! Yet psychotherapists more and more need to understand the meds that are available for their patients, the side effects, when to reevaluate current meds, etc. We have to be able to talk quickly and intelligently to medical doctors about appropriate medications.

 

Learning Objectives for this 5 unit course. Clinicians will:

1. understand the psychotropic medications that their patients are using
2. understand the major clinical features, and target symptoms for common psychiatric disorders.
3. Be aware of differences and similarities among medications for each disorder;
4. Be aware of side effects of medications;
5. Be aware of common treatment errors to avoid;
6. be empowered in communicating with physicians and psychiatrists regarding medications
7. be alerted to the ‘red flag’ issues in psychotropic medications
